LATEST NEWS: Helping the Kenyan Community
October 2007
Kirepwe Island
At the moment the charity is constructing a reservoir on the island to harvest the rain water to provide constant fresh water. It will hold 150,000 litres of water in two chambers.
Drinking water has to come from the main land which takes 45 minutes to cross Mida Creek which is very dangerous; many people over the years have drowned.
This is the largest project the charity has ever done, and we must thank all the donors. Without them this would never have, this would never have happened, and as far as we know, there is no other project like this in Watamu
Dungokundu
Thanks to Runcorn Rotary Club and other donors, the charity was able to provide 50 uniforms for very poor children that were desperate to go to school.
Kanani Primary School
The children in the area have to walk 4/5 miles to go to school in all sorts of weather. The charity decided to help by building two classrooms in 2006. We have just completed the third classroom, then a guest at the Turtle Bay Beach Club Hotel donated funds for the charity to build the fourth classroom. The C.D.F (Kenyan Government) have also built three classrooms.
The children have started the new term in the schools since the beginning of January

New Projects
I'm sure many people are aware of families in Kenya that suffer with malnutrition. Eddy and I have seen many children in Malindi hospital with this problem, some of the children never survive. The charity decided one of the new projects should be agricultural.
A plot of land was rented to cultivate ready for planting vegetables and fruits. This was very successful. The reaction to our trail plot has been very positive with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, praising our efforts and promising their full support.
The charity would like to rent more land to be subdivided between four families to start with that have no land of their own; there are many more families who would like this opportunity. This would enable them to feed their families for the foreseeable future. The excess food can be sold at the markets and hotels.
Profits they make can help pay for sickness, water, school uniforms etc. But we need your help please, to rent more land, to buy tools, wheel barrows and seeds etc. The other problem is water. The charity would like to do a bore hole on the land where we have been told there is water.

Second New Project
This is to help Dungokundu Primary School. The children have nowhere for break time play, or outdoor activities. They have never been able to take part in sports days or football tournaments with neighbouring schools.
Where they play now is very dangerous. There are many coconut trees, and a road runs infront of the school.
The Paper Chase Trust is appealing for your help to raise funds to buy the land for the school.
